The figures below show sensible example source and background regions for PC and WT mode.
The image on the left shows a typical extraction region for a bright, though not piled-up, PC observation; on the right we show a possible background region.
The image on the left shows a typical circular extraction region for a WT observation; on the right we show a possible background region. Alternatively, a box could be used (see below). In this case, the size perpendicular to the window is unimportant, as long as you use the same for both source and background regions.
